Senior Citizen Programs


Located in the community center, the Senior Office offers many services to the
senior population. Information and referrals concerning handyman jobs, trips
and tours, meals on wheels, van transportation, and a free notary
service (a call in advance is suggested.) Give the senior office a call for general
information concerning the older adults.
Golden Club
(Held the fourth Wednesday of each month, unless otherwise noted, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm)
This social club is open to all senior citizens. Come early to get a seat, grab the latest senior scoop which debuts at every Golden Club. New Trip sign ups are open from 10am-11am, before Golden Club begins. Meetings typically consist of an informative speaker, a hot nutritious catered lunch, followed by an hour of entertainment.
Lunch tickets are required for the luncheon. Tickets are available in the senior office Monday - Friday from 8am-3pm. Lunch tickets are $8.00 (cash only) and must be purchased by the
Monday before the meeting. (If you cannot eat whats on the menu an entertainment ticket is available for $1.00 to attend the meeting. Please contact the senior office about this special arrangement.)
Senior Scoop (Available the fourth Wednesday of each month)
The Senior Scoop is a monthly newsletter published by the Parks & Recreation Department to inform you of senior happenings. Topics include general information, monthly activities, classified ads, plus scheduled trips and tours. The latest edition can be picked up at the community center at no charge.
Blood Pressure Check (Fourth Wednesday of each month)
A nurse provided by DePaul Health Center is in the lobby prior to the Golden Club meetings from 10:00 am – 11:00 am to provide blood pressure checks. A free blood pressure test is available to the seniors of St. Ann Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am – Noon. The machine is located in the senior office and no appointment is needed.
Walking (Monday through Friday from 7:30 am – 8:15 am)
Join the morning walkers in the community center’s auditorium.
Everyone walks at their own pace and distance, (17 laps = 1 mile),
in a controlled environment. Routinely practiced walk-ing strengthens the cardiovascular system, reduction of blood pressure, weight control and muscle toning.
Physical Fitness Class
(Each Tuesday 10:30 am – 11:30 am and Thursday 10:15 am – 11:15 am)
These co-ed physical fitness classes increase your cardiovascular strength as well as your
physical and mental well being. Fee: $1 Resident and $1.50 Non Resident Per Class.
Volunteers (Each Monday at 9:00am)
Volunteers meet each Monday at 9:00 am to make bed pads for the Peregrine Society, or an-
yone in need of them. This is also a time to be sociable over a cup of coffee and some goodies
that someone brings. If you are interested or want further information, call the senior office or
just come in and meet with a great group of people.
Evening Ballroom Dance (Each Monday Evening from 7pm – 9:30pm)
The North County Seniors Dance Club offers you a great time of ballroom
dancing with a live band in the auditorium.
Admission is $5.50 at the door. Refreshments are served at break time.
